BF Occupations

Occupations

Everyone works, a formal job or simply a means of survival, everybody works. That work takes time, and it yields rewards, some more risk, some with more reward, but they all take time. And anything that can be done, can be excelled at, offering more reward.

Occupations in Bright Future provide you with constant income, weekly in either Slips or units of Wealth depending on your game’s monetary system.

Performance Rating

Tracking a characters performance at their occupation is important for two reasons, continued employment and raises. Performance is checked at the end of each week, and is recorded as a rating from 0 to 5 marked on the character sheet. These ratings effects the profession check made at the end of the month to determine if the character gains advantage or disadvantage on their profession check. A Performance Rating of 0 means a character is struggling to keep their current occupation and a roll is made at the end of the month to see if the character gets fired.

The rating is determined by the players status and allocation of time during the week. Spending a day of downtime working, the character makes a Persuasion DC 10, on a failure they lose their current occupation.

Occupational History

Occupations aren’t permanent, they change. A characters starting occupation is likely related to their background, but could have changed. A farmer who moves into the city would have a rural background would have a more urban occupation. However changing occupations has prerequisites that must be met, even at character creation, based on character skill, income, or ability scores.

Raises

“Those who work, only earn money, those who excel, are rewarded.” -Gavin Smith, Smith & Smith Industries.
Those who maintain their job and performance for a month have a chance to increase their pay. At the end of each month in game, if you are in favorable standing with your occupation, make a Profession check, DC 10. Success results in increasing your monthly salary by $1000 [4W], and weekly by $250 [1W]. If you roll a natural 20, you are immediately paid out a bonus of your full months salary after adjustment.

Result Monthly Weekly
Below 10
10 — 14 $1000 [4W] $250 [1W]
15 — 19 $2000 [8W] $500 [2W]
20 — 24 $3000 [12W] $750 [3W]
